Eugene’s Human Rights Commission will host a community event in celebration of International Human Rights Day from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Downtown Eugene Public Library, 100 W. 10th Ave.
This event is free to the public with food provided and will feature a moderated community discussion panel on this year’s International Human Rights Day theme: “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.”
International Human Rights Day celebrates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948. The UDHR establishes fundamental human rights that are to be universally protected, marking the first time such rights were articulated. The UDHR safeguards the inherent rights of every individual, irrespective of factors like race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status.
This event is a moment to gather, reflect, and acknowledge the human rights and social justice efforts of our community. This space will be a safe and welcoming environment to all and public accommodation is available upon request.
