Firefighters rescue 2 persons and dogs trapped by Amazon Creek floodwaters

Eugene Springfield Fire’s Engine 10 from Bailey Hill and Battalion 2 responded to a weather-related rescue Dec. 26 at 1:15 a.m.
911 callers reported subjects trapped by rising floodwaters underneath the Oak Patch overpass at the Fern Ridge Path off West 11th.
When crews arrived, they found fast-moving water from the recent storm had risen to the tent openings, and while one individual was able to self-extricate, two others and their dogs were trapped inside the tents.
Engine 10 quickly deployed a ladder down the side of the slough. Firefighters were able to turn the tents and extricate the individuals and their canine friends before the water overtook them.
There were no injuries reported.
