KEPW issues a call for artists: We want you

Presenter: Calling all artists! KEPW is hosting two events this summer. The first is a pre-recorded open mic. Echo of Underground Echo, Wednesday evenings at six, will be teaming up with Farron from the show Transcendence, Sundays at three.
[00:00:18] Echo (Underground Echo): Transcendence and I are doing a collaboration at the end of July where we are going to do eight different artists in an open mic thing on the air. They’re going to play an hour show. I’m going to play an hour show.
[00:00:31] It’s going to be prerecorded and then people will hear themselves on this kind of like two-hour special, on Sunday and Wednesday, Sunday at 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and that’s the 27th, and the 30th which is Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. And it’s called “Transmission Without Permission.”
[00:00:53] They’re going to play their show and that’s going to be the first half of it, and I’m going to play my show and that’s going to be the second half of it. And then it’s kind of going to be like a two-part extravaganza.
[00:01:03] I found that prerecording seems to make my people feel a lot more comfortable. A lot of people are really anxious to come on air and then they find out it’s prerecorded and they can erase anything and they don’t have to worry as much about cussing because I can edit that.
[00:01:19] If you’re an artist, we want you. We’re mostly doing a call to artists right now. A lot of people think it’s just music or poetry. They don’t think about spoken word and political readings and short story readings and other types of performance pieces. Oh yeah. Give us a soliloquy. So please come.
[00:01:45] Presenter: The second event is the “Carnival of Cracked Mirrors” Aug. 30. Here’s Echo:
[00:01:51] Echo (Underground Echo): We’ve recently partnered with the church, the white church, Pastor Zane, August 30 we booked the church for the “Carnival of Cracked Mirrors.” We have an artist that Transcendence has interviewed, 666, that is coming down. It’s their favorite band. So I encouraged them to reach out and see if they could do an interview. ‘Cause what’s the worst thing they can say: No.
[00:02:18] And so they did that and they got to meet their favorite artists and I convinced them to collaborate on a show. And so we’re going to be collaborating with RAVEN’s Nest, which is the White Bird Front Room people, when they got fired, they went and formed RAVEN’s Nest. And we’re going to do benefit with both of us.
[00:02:37] And we’re hoping to get some carnival performers too. The idea is that we want a kind of sideshow environment with four to five bands up on stage. We’re hoping for five bands.
[00:02:51] It is going to be Aug. 30 at the big white church, First Christian Church, with Pastor Zane. And it’s going to be fabulous and so, we’re looking, well, this is a call for artists of all kinds, ’cause we’re also going to have a small marketplace there with some sellers and we’d like to see sellers, we’d like to see performers, and we’d like to see some more bands show up.
So if you fit in one of those categories, reach out at echo@kepw.org.
