Presenter:  Join the club at the Springfield Thunderegg Rock Club 67th Annual Rock and Mineral Show this weekend. It’s at the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 W. C St. in Springfield. That’s Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can find driving directions on their website, SpringfieldThundereggRockClub.org

[00:00:27] Club members have been having fun producing videos, with pictures from the show, for social media:

[00:00:33] Social media video: Springfield Thunderegg Rock and Mineral Show: A variety of vendors. Free admission, plus free parking. Lots of fun games for kids. Lots of tasty snacks. We have it all!

[00:00:58] Presenter: While you’re at the show, you can join the club and sign up for the newsletter. We spoke with Amanda Smith:

[00:01:05] Amanda Smith: So funny enough, it’s my husband who’s the huge rockhound. We joined a little bit over almost two years ago. So we vended at the club show last year. And from then I have taken over as a role as our newsletter editor.

[00:01:25] We write a monthly letter of what’s going on in the club, what events. We write about the other local rock shows that are going on. We have a little section where club members can advertise: ‘Oh, I’m selling this type of rock,’ so we have our little community being invested in.

[00:01:47] And then what I like about the club specifically is how welcoming everybody is. ‘Cause I’m very introverted, but everybody’s so nice there.

[00:01:59] We have a wide range of ages. We have little kids to, like, seniors, and we go out on field trips, like, we go out to Southern Oregon a lot to go mining, go camping. And then we went to Polka Dot Agate Mine, which is out in Madras and we were able to go there before the fire hit, thankfully. But being able to go into the community learning about our environment, how we impact the local area and everything.

[00:02:34] Our club did write a letter. Part of McDermitt was shutting down due to, I think it was lithium. They were shutting part of it down where we would normally go out for field trips for access.

[00:02:47] My husband and I haven’t been out there yet, but just looking at the photos from our rock club members, it’s amazing out there.

[00:02:55] And we and a bunch of other community members were writing letters to, I believe it was the Forest Service out there, to ask them to keep it open. And this is why it’s important not just to the environment, but the local rockhounds.

[00:03:11] Presenter: That’s Amanda Smith, editor of the newsletter for the Springfield Thunderegg Rock Club. Their annual rock and mineral show is this weekend. For more about all the rock club has to offer, see their website, SpringfieldThundereggRockClub.org.
