Battle of the Cover Bands: Glitzkrieg v. The Dial-ups Jan. 15

4 min read
We heard there was this new cover band in town named The Dial-ups, so we kindly kicked in their door and said, ‘We're challenging you to a cover band rock-off.'

Echo This is KEPW 97.3 FM broadcasting from Eugene, Oregon and simulcasting online at KEPW.org. I’m your host Echo and I’m here with A.J. Lynx from Glitzkrieg. And there’s a show coming up I want to tell you guys about. It’s a chance to connect to your local community and hear some sweet new sounds from a cover band that does a lot in their community. Want to tell us a little more about this, A.J.?

A.J. Lynx Sure can. Well, firstly, again, thanks for having us on, we had a great time talking with you. But this show is, we’re trying to help get people into the venues after the holidays because that can be a little bit slow.

But really we’re walking around and we heard there was this new cover band in town named The Dial-ups, and we’re like, ‘Yeah, we’re going to have to challenge you to a cover band rock-off, because there’s no one better at bringing in an audience than us.’ So we kindly kicked in their door and said, ‘We’re challenging you.’

And so we brought them over to John Henry’s, and they said they’d host. So it’s going to be a Battle of the Cover Bands: Glitzkrieg versus The Dial-ups with our special guest judges, The Unbranded. And that’s going to be on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at John Henry’s in downtown Eugene.

The show is going to start at 9 p.m., doors will open at 8 p.m. and it’s a $8 cover at the door and it’s 21+, unfortunately. But we are loud. So even if you just stand outside 20-year-olds and younger, you’re going to be able to hear us (Come to the show for free, stand outside and cheer.)

And it should be fun because really we’re going to have a coin toss, see who goes first. We’re going to play back to back. And then the final band is not a cover band. They were nice enough to come and guest judge, and they’re going to take the pulse of the audience who won it. And by win I mean who gets to buy drinks for the other band that night? And then we all just stick around and have fun and listen to the third band.

I think it’s a great thing to do post-holidays. But I also think it’s a great thing to do because we are the best cover band in town, period.

Echo So what I hear you saying is: You’re not just trying to create a space that people can come and expunge their holiday blues or their systemic overwhelm from the seasonal holiday craziness. You’re also trying to support local businesses.

A.J. Lynx Absolutely. I mean, it’s music. Music spaces there aren’t a lot. A couple of them have shut down recently that are really trying to hold on, from what I’ve been told, for the three years I’ve been here (since being zapped from another dimension). So every place though, it’s just been, it’s just been something that’s hard to do. You don’t always own your space—you’re renting, right?

So you want to support local businesses as much as possible, but music venues, for sure, because they just bring so much life, especially back into that downtown core. There’s little pockets that just seem deserted, but these places are there and other ones are opening up.

And so you support one and it helps kind of support the others in turn, and keeps more foot traffic and keeps things brighter and happier and more welcoming. And that’s a great way to be.

Echo So yeah, absolutely. It’s folks creates this system of mutual aid. Because what you’re doing is you’re supporting local artistry, which supports local commerce, which supports the community as a whole.

A.J. Lynx Exactly. And if I can turn some people on to Iron Maiden at the same time, then I am totally for that. (Benefit right there.) Yeah, some Doro, some Runaways, like any of that stuff. And if anybody ever wants to come and sing a solo with me, within reason, I welcome it. (Okay.) I’m just saying, when you’re there, if you want to come sing something with us. (That’s fabulous.) I have a spot in the show. Oh. Towards the end, where I might bring somebody up on stage. I’m not promising anything. It’s just the temperature of the guys. But there you go.

Echo So you might want to be there. Because if you have that voice and she sees your energy in the crowd…you might be the lucky one.

A.J. Lynx All are welcome. All are welcome. But we hope that everybody can come and have a good time and see the glory that is Glitzkrieg, the ridiculous ’90s covers that are The Dial-ups and the lovely local, fabulous alternative rock band that is The Unbranded. They play there a lot and we are so happy to be friends with them, so we hope everybody can come out and have a good time.

Echo Absolutely. Shout out to The Unbranded, shout out to The Dial-ups. We love music that is local here on KEPW 97.3 FM.
