We at KEPW apologize for the misrepresentation by Whole Community News of the actual events that took place on Jan. 30, 2026 in regards to the so-called riot.
Whole Community News was presented with five other local news outlets’ stories that contradict everything Whole Community News has reported.
Whole Community News refused to acknowledge or report that the federal agents inside the Federal Building broke the first window to deploy tear gas and pepper balls at protestors, as reported by The Daily Emerald, Double Sided Media, Eugene Weekly, KEZI, Reddit, and more.
Whole Community News also praised the Eugene Police Department for protecting protesters when in reality Eugene Police Department was only protecting property, regardless of the report from the police auditor.
Those of you protesting or against this tyranny by federal officers should disregard the reporting of Whole Community News in regards to any and all future protests, and instead refer to KEPW Newsday for nonpolitical coverage of future events.
KEPW Newsday with Sam Broadway is broadcast every Tuesday through Friday at 12:30 p.m. on KEPW-LP 97.3 FM, Eugene PeaceWorks Community Radio.
Support original local reporting
from A.G. Sulzberger, New York Times
I oversee our news operations and our business. But I’m also a former reporter who has watched with a lot of alarm as our profession has shrunk and shrunk in recent years.
Normally, we talk about the importance of subscribing to the Times. I’m here today with a different message. I’m encouraging you to support any news organization that’s dedicated to original reporting. If that’s your local newspaper, terrific — local newspapers in particular need your support. If that’s another national newspaper, that’s great too.
And if it’s the New York Times, we’ll use that money to send reporters out to find the facts and context that you’ll never get from AI. That’s it, not asking you to click on any link, just subscribe to a real news organization with real journalists doing firsthand, fact-based reporting. And if you already do, thank you.
A. G. Sulzberger is the publisher of The New York Times.
