We hope to see you at Farmworkers Solidarity Celebration and Candlelight Vigil on April 1.
Our event from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Springfield City Hall is continuing as planned in the aftermath of the horrendous scandal related to Cesar Chavez, a separate room has been reserved with trauma-informed resources and quiet space for healing care with community partners.
When the celebration ends at 6:30 p.m. there will be a candlelight vigil in the Springfield City Hall plaza in memory of the people who’ve been killed by ICE or have died in ICE detention.
All community partners have reconfirmed their participation. The focus has always been on farmworkers and the farmworkers rights movement. The movement is much bigger than any one individual.
This bilingual event for individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds includes: community partner tabling, free healthy snacks, and child care.
Community partners include Springfield Alliance For Equity and Respect (SAFER), Eugene Friends of the Farmworkers, Springfield Public Library and History Museum, Eugene Arte Latino, Comunidad y Gerencia Cultural, Willamette Farm and Food Coalition, Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad, Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC), and Lane County government.
The event features:
- “Farmworker Rights Movement Past & Present,” history talk with Nancy Bray and community panel.
- Mariachi Del Sol and Ballet Folklorico Colibre, cultural performances from beloved local artists.
- Arts and Crafts activities with Eugene Arte Latino. K-12 students get creative with Jessica Zapata.
- SAFER Human Rights Leadership Award. Springfield Alliance For Equity and Respect.
This special celebration offers a preview for the Farmworkers Rights movement and Eugene Friends of the Farmworkers 1972-1976 exhibit that will be at Springfield History Museum from July through December 2026.
