People around the world will observe the 14th annual World Homeless Day on Oct. 10, 2023.
Eugene will mark the day with prayer and silent reflection at the Wayne Morse Free Speech Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your own mat, blanket, or chair.
This international day serves as a platform to advocate for improved policies and funding that can help prevent and end homelessness. The day raises awareness about the needs of people who currently experience homelessness and promotes work in local communities to alleviate suffering and prevent death. Here’s how you can help make a difference:
- Attend this event locallyÂ
- Educate people about homeless issuesÂ
- Celebrate and support local good worksÂ
- Highlight local issues in the mediaÂ
- Donate to local service providersÂ
- Volunteer and provide hands on helpÂ
- Thank volunteers with acts of love

The concept of ‘World Homeless Day’ emerged from online discussions between people responding to homelessness from various parts of the world. The Inaugural World Homeless Day was marked on Oct. 10, 2010.
Since its founding, World Homeless Day has been observed on every continent (except Antarctica), in over 100 countries. Use of the idea of ‘World Homeless Day’ is open for all to use… anywhere in the world.
