NAACP hosts film screening, panel discussion Oct. 9

Presenter: Eugene Springfield NAACP will host a film screening and panel discussion at the WOW Hall Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p m. Two films depict the power of Black joy and resilience as local governments use eminent domain to push out, displace, take homes and land, and destroy Black communities.

[00:00:20] The film Where We Goin’: The Power of Place is a documentary from a millennial Black filmmaker and artist raised in the heart of the whitest city in America. He spoke about it in a video shared by the Portland Trail Blazers on Facebook. Portland filmmaker Devin Boss:

[00:00:37] Devin Boss: My most recent (documentary) was called Where We Goin’: The Power of Place. It’s really just about showcasing like the manifold splendor of like Black culture, like who we are, all that we are. Stories like these are super important just because like knowledge of self is so key to strength and certainty in the world.

[00:00:55] There’s an entirely new generation of filmmakers, storytellers… The stories that we’re telling, they’re powerful.
