LCC student leaders introduce themselves to board

3 min read
Among their goals for the year, senators said they hope to increase resources for essential basic needs, such as the food pantry, and to increase awareness of all available student resources.

Presenter: Student Government Association leaders introduce themselves to the Lane Community College board. On Sept. 30, Amanda Fallon:

Amanda Fallon: My name is Amanda Fallon. I’m the vice president of the Student Government Association. I’m here to introduce several of my senators for this upcoming year. We just had our first successful public Senate meeting tonight and passed multiple motions. Thank you.

[00:00:22] Jessica Farrell: Hi, so I’m Jess Farrell. I am the marketing officer for Student Government Association. Like Amanda said, we had a really successful first meeting. We had two groups show up for public comment. So it was really, really fun to be a part of and feel successful in that.

[00:00:38] But I just want to introduce myself, so: I’m from San Diego, California. Sunny San Diego. This is my about fourth year in Eugene, but second year at Lane, and I’m planning on transferring either back home to SDSU or College of Charleston.

[00:00:54] I have a passion in marketing and politics, which I think is reflected in how I’m involved at school. And yeah, so thank you so much for your time. And here’s another senator.

[00:01:06] Matthew Carricaburu: My name is Matthew Carricaburu, and I’m the president pro tempore for the Lane Student Government Association. This is my third year at Lane, and I’m still undecided on what I want to study. I’ve lived here my entire life, and after I’m done with Lane, I plan on transferring to U of O or OSU. Got to stay close to home.

[00:01:25] Here at Lane, on student government, I want to try to build connections with our students through events. I also want to try to increase resources for essential student basic needs, and finally, try to increase like, the food pantry.

[00:01:42] Alejandro Ramirez: My name is Alejandro Ramirez. I am joining you today with the ASLCC (Associated Students of Lane Community College) and SGA (Student Government Association). I am going into my second year here at LCC as a business management major. I am on track to transfer over to Rennes School of Business in France next fall.

But during my time here as a communications officer, I hope to do three things: I hope to build off of the strong communication channels that we already have here on LCC as a communications officer to increase the awareness of available student resources; enhance engagement with clubs and events on campus; and provide more transparency and accessibility to what SGA is currently working on throughout the year.

[00:02:23] Presenter: Student government President Amelia Hampton:

[00:02:26] Amelia Hampton (SGA, president): Today we just concluded our very successful first session of SGA, just before the meeting. And I’m very happy with everyone who came to say public comment.

[00:02:36] Last week we had ‘Senators Unscripted.’  We had ‘Welcome Week:’ a booth out there helping students find their classes, serving them coffee, giving ’em snacks, giving them little prizes, ’cause students love prizes. And we’ll have Ty (the Titan) and cornhole where people can compete against Ty at a cornhole game. And if they win, they get a prize.

[00:02:57] And we’ll also be making dog blankets to be donated to shelters. And then Thursday, out there at the gardens, by the bus stop, a petting zoo, llamas, sheep, goats.

[00:03:10] And right now we currently have two senator seats open, so we have forms on Titan Times. We’ll be reaching out, hoping to get two senators in by the end of this month.

[00:03:21] I really shared a lot of the events and the fun things that we’re doing. But what we have been starting to kick off and we kicked off today was a lot of policy changes, a lot of decision-making, a lot of structural changes to SGA. So I look forward to sharing more in my next report about some of the core changes that we’ve made to SGA.
