EWEB is having a grand opening for its Emergency Water Station at the Sheldon Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022. They have been working for years on water reliability projects to ensure that safe, reliable water continues to be available to our community in the event of a major earthquake or other emergency.

About the event:

  • Sept. 10, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sheldon Community Center, 2445 Willakenzie Rd
  • Speakers from EWEB and the City, including Councilor Jennifer Yeh
  • Free 3-gallon water storage containers that you can fill and take home

You can learn about:

  • How to use the water station
  • Scenarios in which it would be activated
  • Details about the water well
  • Water treatment tips
  • EWEB’s Pledge to Prepare campaign

Just as your household invests in an emergency kit, EWEB is making investments to prepare, replace and maintain our community’s water system.

We are working with community partners to develop an emergency water supply program that includes several permanent distribution sites located throughout the community using groundwater wells, as well as mobile water trailers. As of January 2021, five sites are operational:

  • Prairie Mountain School – 5305 Royal Ave.
  • Howard Elementary School – 700 Howard Ave.
  • Eugene Science Center – 2300 Leo Harris Parkway
  • Lane Events Center/Fairgrounds – 796 W 13th Ave.
  • Sheldon Community Center – 2445 Willakenzie Rd.

Two additional sites are planned—near Churchill High School and near Roosevelt Middle School.

If disaster strikes our community’s water system and you need to obtain water from one of these distribution sites, you will need to bring your own storage containers and disinfect the water before use. Get tips for storing and treating water.
