Ready NW flooding presentation now online
1 min readfrom Jacque Wurster, River Road Community Organization
Ready NW Eugene and the River Road Community Organization hosted a presentation Nov. 14 with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The discussion of dam safety and inundation maps was recorded and can be viewed on YouTube.
Thank you to Charlsey Cartwright, Matt Chase, Dustin Bengtson, Natalie Ehrlich, and the rest of the USACE team for putting this together and for sharing the USACE National Inventory of Dams (NID) Fact Sheet.
In late 2021, the NID was published online, sharing publicly available inundation maps that show that flooding resulting from authorized dam operations and from dam breach could cause major flooding in the Eugene/Springfield area.
The purpose of the Nov. 14 presentation was to inform the community of the facts, to understand how to read the maps, and to start an ongoing dialogue on this important topic.
While more questions were generated than could be answered during the presentation, we plan to unpack this information and establish next steps in the coming weeks and months.
Please join Ready NW Eugene via Zoom on Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with your questions and ideas about how to get involved in this important discussion, and other preparedness efforts.
