Motorists and bicycle riders are asked to be on the lookout for workers applying red paint to bus-only lanes along LTD’s Emerald Express “EmX” bus rapid transit routes.

Painting the lanes red shows drivers where they can and cannot drive, stop, and turn. The enhancement, including additional signage in some areas, is expected to make driving safer on these streets and intersections traveled by buses, personal and commercial vehicles, and bicycles.

Painting is expected to start this week, but is dependent on the weather and the supply chain. Once the work begins, it should be completed during the work day over a few weeks.

Signs at affected EmX stations direct passengers to the closest alternative bus stop.

The painting is part of a safety project Brown Contracting started earlier this month to remove and repaint ‘Bus Only’ and turn legends in all EmX lanes. The work continues daily from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m.

The money to fund the $2 million safety enhancement project comes from 5307 and Formula funds, State Lottery Bond funds, and the LTD general fund.

More information about bus lane painting project is available at LTD.org.  LTD is also providing information about the project via its Twitter feed and service alerts at LTD.org.
