Health Care for All Oregon Lane County Chapter is hosting a town hall Sunday, April 19, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1685 W. 13th Ave.
Attendees will hear a brief presentation, ask questions, share concerns, and actively participate in building a better future for health care in Oregon.
The discussion will center Oregon’s potential transition to universal health care, featuring members of the Universal Health Plan Governance Board (UHPGB) as speakers.
Created by the Oregon Legislature, the UHPGB is developing a comprehensive plan to finance, administer, and transition Oregon to a universal health care system covering every resident. The board is on track to deliver that plan to the legislature in September 2026. Legislators will take up the recommendation in the 2027 session, and may pass on the decision to voters as early as 2028.
Oregon is the only state with a constitutional amendment guaranteeing health care as a fundamental right of every resident. Now, the state is working to make that constitutional promise a reality.
The data supports that change is needed now: Health care costs twice as much as other developed nations; medical debt is the No. 1 cause of bankruptcy; and access to quality care is diminishing.Â
What Oregonians can expect at each town hall
The event will start with a presentation updating attendees of the UHPGB’s progress towards developing a plan. It will feature Sen. James Manning Jr, members of the Universal Health Plan Governance Board, and speakers from Health Care for All Oregon. Participants can submit questions in advance and share in person. All events are free and open to the public.Â
Registration information is available at hcao.org.
