Homes For Good prepares for atmospheric river

Speaker With the storm approaching, Homes For Good offered a readiness report. Wednesday, Dec.17, Executive Director Jacob Fox:
Jacob Fox Heather just wanted to hear from us how we’re prepared for the weather event that’s coming. So I’ll kick it off and then, Wakan—these weather events impact Wakan’s portfolio sort of most squarely.Â
Anyway, we have a Continuity Of Operations Plan (COOP). We have a sort of a well-developed, and well-socialized ‘Winter Weather Annex,’ it’s called, so it really outlines exactly how we would approach a weather event like this.
Despite, you know, having a great plan, there’s always curveballs and challenges. For example, Lazy Days (RV and Mobile Home Park) lost power up the McKenzie today. A very expensive emergency generator did not function. For at least part of the day, the water and septic system was inoperable.Â
But I feel like we have a plan. We’re prepared. And Wakan, if you want to share any more details, please jump in.
Speaker Supportive Housing Director Wakan Alferes:
Wakan Alferes (Homes for Good) Yeah, I guess just to tag on to as Jacob mentioned, we have the COOP, but we also did a hazard vulnerability assessment as part of that. So we kind of identified, like, where / what are the types of hazards that are the highest risk at certain sites.
And so for flooding, our highest risk site really is Riverview (Terrace). And so the the team’s on that, we have a new sump pump at that property and they’ve, you know, they’re well prepared to respond to that.
Lazy Days is our biggest concern right now. They still don’t have power. The road in front of the property is closed, making just getting the repairman for the generator there—he is now on site, and unfortunately, the generator needs a part to be ordered. Knowing the weather coming tonight, I know that there likely will be delays in that.
Speaker With the storm upon us, Homes For Good shares an update on its preparedness activities, including a Continuity of Operations plan and a Winter Weather Annex.
